Hey handsome and beauties! Welcome to Words of IzzY. Today we will discuss HOW MEDITATION HELPS YOUR BRAIN? WHY STUDENTS OR YOUNGSTERS SHOULD MEDITATE? And many more about Meditation. With Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
So let’s get started…
Here are some questions, Is meditation for old people? How can simple breathing make a difference? Does meditation affect our brain? You will get answers after reading this article.
So firstly discuss “What is Meditation?“
What Is Meditation?
There are so many definitions who define differently “What is Meditation?”
Don’t worry, here you will get very simple definition of Meditation.
In a very simple term, Meditation is deep rest. Deep Relaxation. Meditation is not as complicated as people make it.
I hope you will get simplest definition of Meditation.
Now let us discuss who can Meditate? Is meditation only for old people? And Should Students or Youngsters Meditate? If yes then why.
Everyone can Meditate.
Meditation has many many benefits. And obviously I can not tell you these all benefits here. But I will tell some of them which are related to our Brain.
WHY STUDENTS OR YOUNGSTERS SHOULD MEDITATE?
Yes, It is for students and youngsters. Because students and youngsters need “brainpower”!.
They need more intuition, more intelligence, and better memory. So they need to Meditate.
If you are a student or a youngster and if you want to complete your own dreams, your own ideas, you need to Meditate.
Because Meditation gives you brilliant ideas.
Just the way you can train your whole body, You can train your brain as well. And that’s what meditation does.
Now let us discuss some biological terms related to our brain.
IMPACT OF MEDITATION ON YOUR BRAIN
Hippocampus creates long term memories from your experiences. Hippocampus loses 5% efficiency every decade.
That’s why many people have memory problems, as they reach old age.
This wrinkly part helps you in reasoning and logical thinking.
This is your grey matter.
Amygdala is the part of the brain. It triggers emotional responses. Anxiety, aggression, fear and intensity are triggered by the Amygdala.
There is a central part of the brain called Amygdala. When you meditate it starts shrinking. You get nervous when amygdala gets bigger. You have emotional turbulence.
Meditation impacts your amygdala.
It has an impact on the grey matter in your brain. Some scientists say that grey matter increases.
Now look at the Harvard Research…
These are two MRI scans of the same brain.
Before and after Meditation.
Meditation trains your brain to control your emotional responses.
Scientists of the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) say that “Grey Matter increases when you Meditate long term.”
Meditation makes our Hippocampal more effective.
Increase memory processing.
Meditation also makes our cortex more wrinkly. So that more information can be stored.
That’s what we mean by increasing your Grey Matter.
And there are countless research studies that help us support claims that meditation actually physically helps your brain to perform better!
YOUR BREATH AND YOUR EMOTIONS
Now let us discuss, How does your breath control it all?
Here is an example that also applies to your life.
Breath is linked to your emotions.
When you get angry, notice how your breath is, Your breath is faster. And, When you are happy and see beautiful scenery you breathe differently. And when you are with someone you love, Your breathing changes.
So learning about your breath is always useful.
You can be master of your mood by Meditation.
Suppose you get some bad remarks from one of your friends, then your mood is off. And it continues the whole day.
But, you want to be a master of that. Then use your breath and you will find it in a few minutes. Now you are back. Your mood is in your control.
Now question is that, “How can a normal person start his or her Meditation journey?”
HOW TO START MEDITATING?
You should do Meditation in a comfortable pose.
You can sit on the floor, on your bed or a chair.
You can Meditate for 20 minutes when you begin.
These are very simple steps through which you can start your Meditation journey.
Now let’s Discuss What is the best time for Meditation?
Best time to meditate is before meals.
If you Meditate after meals you may feel sleepy.
You may need guided meditation when you begin.
You can download the app called Sattva (The Art of Living). Here you will get lots of meditations available for free.
As you see here we are not going to depth in any topic because we do not want anyone to be confused with our article.
Now let us talk about Mental Fitness, that is most important.
We pay a lot of attention to our physical fitness. Because, if we are physically unfit, then it shows.
There is no scale for mental health and fitness. But that does not mean mental health problems are not real.
So let us start a journey towards better mental fitness.
Tag your friends and gift them a little bit of calm in their lives.
Don’t Meditate because we ask you to, Meditate because your Brain needs you to.
Because in this stressful life, giving you a little peace of mind makes a difference.
